Our tree-planting initiative - co-designed with our customers

At Castle Trust Bank, we're serious about our commitment to the environment - as you can see by taking a look at our latest Environment, Social and Governance plan. We realise that we still have more to do though - for example, we launched our online e-Account range in 2021 to help minimise the amount of paper we send, and we're working towards eliminating the last few paper communications that are issued to customers who hold those accounts.

But we want to do more, so we co-designed our initiative with customers by asking them what they'd like to see us support. The response was clear - with over 96% of customers confirming they are concerned about climate change, and almost 50% putting tree planting and forest protection as their preferred initiative.

As a result, we'll plant a tree for every Fixed Rate e-Saver or Fixed Rate e-Cash ISA that is opened. This can be a new account, or a reinvestment into one of these accounts at maturity. We’ll keep you updated, by emailing you telling you where and when your tree has been planted.

We're targeting 25,000 trees by the end of 2024!

We'll plant a tree for every Fixed Rate e-Saver or Fixed Rate e-Cash ISA that is opened. Having smashed through our target of planting 10,000 trees by the end of 2023, we're aiming to push that even further to a total of 25,000 trees by the end of 2024!

Our trees are planted in locations across the world in places such as Madagascar, Mozambique, Nicaragua and Kenya by local villagers, where the opportunity is greatest - perhaps where deforestation has occurred, or there is a high risk of land erosion. Hiring local villagers to plant the trees helps alleviate poverty, and provides an economic incentive to ensure the wellbeing of the restoration project.

We've partnered with Ecologi for our tree-planting initiative.

We'll buy more trees every month, to reflect new e-Accounts that have been opened. Keep an eye on this page - we'll post regular updates showing the latest number of trees planted.

More about Ecologi, our tree-planting partner

Ecologi is a highly respected, UK-based environmental organisation. It has grown rapidly since its formation in 2018, with over 30 million trees planted in total already. It is now routinely planting 100,000 trees a day, with almost 24 million trees planted in 2021 alone.

They also fund dozens of climate solutions. Their 2021 Impact Report gives more detail on the kind of impact the community they have built is having.
